The Poynter-ACES Advanced Editing Certificate Training Package combines the teaching of expert editors with the power of Poynter’s industry-leading e-learning  platform at News University.  It is the latest training initiative developed in the Poynter-ACES partnership, started in 2013.
“We are delighted to help editors and writers elevate their skills with this advanced program,” said Teresa Schmedding, president of the American Copy Editors Society and managing editor at Rotary International. “ACES has always been committed to empowering editors, and this certificate helps us fulfill our mission in new and exciting ways.”
The Poynter-ACES Advanced Editing Certificate Training Package contains two components:
  • ACES Advanced Editing Online Group Seminar, a four-week faculty-led program that focuses on substantive editing and critical thinking skills across multiple platforms.
  • Accurate, Audience-Focused Editing Course Pack, a series of seven self-paced courses for experienced editors who want to refine their skills.
Those who complete both programs will receive the Advanced Editing Certificate. ACES members receive a discount on this program and all online courses at News University.
“There has never been a more critical time for thoughtful, strategic editing,” said Vicki Krueger, Poynter’s manager of marketing communications and former director of interactive learning at News University. “This partnership is a testament to the value of professional development as the arena of editors, writers and publishers grows across the media landscape.”
ACES and Poynter have developed more than 25 courses since the partnership started in 2013. More than 8,000 communications professionals, educators and students have enrolled in these programs to date, making it one of the most successful initiatives at News University.
ACES is a non-profit 501(c)(3) education and membership organization working toward the advancement of copy editors. Our aim is to provide solutions to editing problems, training and a place to discuss common issues.
